Stable sprinting sensation Hooness is set to take her place in the Group 3 McEwan Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley on September 11. Hooness has been back in work for a while as we have brought her up slowly to attack the Spring Racing Carnival. A recent trial saw her win easily by 6 lengths with race jockey Danny Nikolic aboard. A very exciting time for the connections of this mare who is destined to add more Black type to her pedigree page!!

The winner of the "Lobster Cave" competition was Merril de Gee of Dandenong Victoria. Merrill will enjoy a dinner for himself and 9 guests at the "Lobster Cave" Beaumaris to the value of $2000.00

"Exciting" is how Jason describes the Kevin Sheedy bred Bel Esprit/Archie's Magic filly purchased at the Magic Millions Sale. Partners are welcome to join Kevin in ownership of this striking filly who has already shown she can run. A very well balanced filly with plenty of scope, she has been broken in and is currently in full work. "She is a teriffic mover with a great attitude and speed" Jason says with a grin. "We never expected her to be so forward with her pedigree. She will make a racehorse....thats for sure!" Bel Esprit, from the Eliza Park stallion draft, has proved himself as a prolific producer of winners as well as becoming the leading stallion in Victoria with runners to winners. "His progeny just run" Mark Lindsay from Eliza Park explained. "We suggested Jason buy this Bel Esprit/Archies Magic filly as we thought she was the best in our draft. She has scope, conformation and quality about her like you see in the top Bel Esprit fillies." Kevin Sheedy, better known as the 'Super Coach' bred the filly and was adament to stay in her for her racing career. "We have just started to syndicate her now as we like to test our yearlings out prior to selling shares in them. She certainly fits the bill" Jason Says.

With a talented band of youngsters set to resume, our Spring is looking quite uplifting. Winter has been quiet for us having a limited amount of wet trackers. Many of our well bred 2yo's and 3yo's who have required time are back in work and being prepared for a tilt at the Spring riches. Horses by Exceed and Excel, Bel Esprit, Anabaa, Nadeem, O'Reilly  and more are preparing for a serious assult on this years' Spring Carnival. Spearheading the line up will be the well performed Black Type winner Hooness who we expect to pick up more Group Races this Spring. Exciting times ahead.!!!

Since our return to training one year ago exactly, Petch Racing has endured its ups and downs, however more ups. It has been an exciting year with the Black Type success of brilliant sprinting filly as the star of the stable. Other victories and good performances have been sinonimous in our successful strike rate. There has also been downside with the passing of our most talented staying aspirant and much loved "Kornati" who we have respectfully buried here at the property. It has been with much support from our most loyal band of clients who have joined our team to make our success achievable. Thank you to all who have not only invested into our stable, but also our supporters and here is hoping for more success in the coming year. With our band of well bred youngsters, we are sure to have a good year ahead.

Mornington Racing Club and Melbourne Racing Club have officially signed a merger agreement which will see Mornington become one of the most sought after training and racing facilities in the state. This agreement has benefits to all in respect of our training facilities. The Mornington Racetrack itself has already been re-constructed and our property on Roberts Road is now a highly sought after training facility. The benefits to our clients through this merger will be great. Metropoiltan meetings are in the pipeline for Mornington and it is nice to know we will not have to travel our horses at all to race in town. Just a win win for all we believe.

The last of the Yearling Sales for 2010, the Magic Millions National Sale (Gold Coast) June 5,6 & 7 is our destination this weekend. We look forward to viewing some very well bred yearlings at what will be a value sale. The MM National Sale has been renowned to produce some top horses and every year has produced a real top liner. Inspections will be done by us on Saturday and with the sale on Sunday and Monday, we really look forward to finding our next super horse. Very talented stayer "Sminker" (pictured above) is set to resume at Cranbourne on Sunday 14 June. After two easy trials she will start her campaign off in a 1400m race. She is a mare of immense staying talent and with natural improvement, will be aimed at some of the Cups over the Spring.....Maybe the big one? Stay tuned!!

The dam of flying filly Hooness was yesterday sold at the Inglis Broodmare Sale. Spectrum's Image, who is the grandaughter of Tidal Light who was Australasian Horse of the Year 1997 and mother of already stakes winner Hooness (more to come) was offered at the sale by the same vendor as Hooness (purchased by Petch Racing). The mare was knocked down to Petch Racing for $85k plus GST. The extra enticement was that Spectrum's Image is in foal to leading Victorian Stallion "Bel Esprit" and is due to foal on October 20 this year. With a pedigree such as this, the foal is certain to make the Gold Coast Magic Millions Sale and potentially bring a lot more than the $85k purchase price for both mare and foal. To add to this great deal, Darley have offered a foal share agreement to stallion Exceed and Excel, which will create a full brother/sister to Hooness. What will it be worth? Well renowned seafood restaurant the "Lobster Cave" have come on board to sponsor Jason Petch Racing Stables in a new initiative in a racing stable. We have signed a deal with Bill Ferg (proprietor Lobster Cave) for 3 years to give benefits to our loyal clients. This deal will see all clients of our team receive special benefits to what is one of Australia's most rewarded seafood establishments. It does not end there.
